Cecilia (Pacheco) Becenti, The University of New Mexico – UNM Rainforest Innovations – New Mexico Tribal Entrepreneurship Enhancement Program
Summary: UNM Rainforest Innovations – the technology transfer and economic development arm for UNM – has developed the EDA-funded New Mexico Tribal Entrepreneurship Enhancement Program (NMTEEP). NMTEEP seeks to create broader opportunity, wealth and job growth through enhancing entrepreneurship in tribal communities throughout New Mexico, especially those effected by coal mine closures. To accomplish its goals, the program is creating authentic and sustainable relationships with tribal communities and entrepreneurs through four key components: tribal liaisons, entrepreneurial training, entrepreneur connection events, and a podcast. The tribal liaisons serve as dedicated mentors for entrepreneurs within tribal communities.
