Concurrent Session – Three Interactive Examples of Designing Adaptability into Programs that Engage Students and Uplift the Community

Speakers: Esther Bailey – Professor of Practice, C. T. Bauer College of Business
Charlie Becker – Professor of Practice and Managing Director, SURE Program, University of Houston
Saleha Khumawala – Professor and Founding Director, SURE Program, University of Houston

Diversity of inputs—people, experiences, methods—is the cornerstone of adaptability. Guessing the changes that are coming to our universities is a losing game. Designing programs with the adaptability that diversity brings doesn’t just promote equity and improve pedagogy, it ensures these programs’ survival.

In this workshop, participants will learn how the Center for Economic Inclusion (CEI) at University of Houston has made diversity and adaptability the cornerstone of its renowned SURE℠ Program. Faculty from CEI will take participants through three different interactive activities to illustrate this point from the viewpoint of a student, community entrepreneur, business executive and educator.
