Equitable economic development (EED) strengthens communities by providing opportunities to all of its citizens. The importance of EED was highlighted in breakout sessions during the UEDA virtual conference in 2020 and was further highlighted during discussions with local economic development stakeholders. In addition, diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) became a strategic priority for all types of organizations (government, academia, industry) in the past year. With themes including Equity Mapping, Recruitment – Retention – Relationships, Building Networks, and Diversifying the Supplier Pool, the workshop participants will create an EED initiative that will complement their organization’s community DEI efforts.
