While higher education institutions tout their positive impacts within their regional economy, engagement often rests on the shoulders of boundary spanners and is dependent on commitment by individual faculty, staff, and administrators. Economic engagement activities aren’t usually detrimental to individual advancement, but incentives and motivations for doing so are lacking. With many demands and little time, institutions and their regional partners should evaluate the current environment and consider what could be done to enhance faculty and staff participation. This workshop will look at how to create a culture of recognition that can encourage and enhance faculty’s engagement in their community.
